4. Think Before Sharing : Staying Safe in Social Media

Welcome back to new addition to this series. Here, we will talk some basics on why we should limit sharing too much information in social media sites.

Social media, took such a rise in recent few years, many users are actively involved in sharing too much information online in social media. It might be facebook, tiktok, youtube or any other platform, so much information are being created and uploaded on daily basis.

We must clearly be aware on what to share and not to share, what to limit while sharing. It might be your own content, photos, videos or it might be other people's creation / posts, before sharing it or posting it in your profile, you must think and be aware.

Privacy is important. You should not share your personal information like contacts (except business purposes), travel plans, home address, as it can be used to cause harm or take advantage of you. Before sharing any type of information on social media take a moment to think about the information you are about to share. Try avoiding strangers’ random messages or responses on your shared content. Always be selective with friend requests and avoid connecting with unknown people as you don’t know their intentions.

Social media is fun and entertaining, helpful for getting new updates and marketing your services. . . but before that safety should come first. Always think carefully about what you post, for example people are creating kid's profile and sharing too much photos in that account, stop this. Another example, someone is travelling to another city, and they are posting photo from airport and says "going to.....", stop this. People are adding unknown people just by seeing cool or hot profile pic, involves in chat, shares personal info, shares too much personal photos (or private videos), and gets in issue like "blackmail", so stop adding strangers, and stop sharing your private pics or videos (do not share with anyone). People are creating videos when they are aggressive or stressed, and speaks a lot of bad words, scolds other people and uploads that video. . . stop this. Before sharing this kind of stuff . . . think clearly. Take time, ask yourself why you are going to post this video ? or photo ?, is this good idea to share this photo or video ?...THINK.

Next important thing, you saw some news . . . or shocking stuff . . . then before sharing it in your profile, try to verify the source. Do not involve in sharing fake news. Or, you saw someone's video which is too much personal (should not be shared), before sharing that video for fun, think "if this video was mine / my sister's / my family's, will I share it ? or I will try to stop sharing?", think twice before sharing.

Stay mindful, stay safe, and think before you share any type of information or content on social media. Once something is online, it’s hard to delete it permanently.

We can go more deep on this topic, but for now let it be.
